Unearthing a Vanillaware Gem: GrimGrimoire OnceMore - A Delightful Article Review

Upon delving into the treasure trove of Vanillaware's creations, it's impossible not to acknowledge the shining star that is 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. However, a blast from the past has captured my attention: GrimGrimoire, now reborn as GrimGrimoire OnceMore, showcasing the developer's daring and unconventional prowess. This extraordinary journey might appeal to a different audience, but it's worth exploring. At the heart of GrimGrimoire OnceMore lies our enchanting protagonist, Lillet Blan, a young hopeful attending the esteemed Silver Star Tower magic academy. Her drive to become a skilled sorceress to support her younger siblings is inspiring, and her interactions with the academy's colorful characters add flavor to her journey. But Silver Star Tower holds dark secrets, with shady professors, a genuine devil, and a time-loop mystery that Lillet must solve.

The story captivates from the get-go, and Lillet's evolving relationships with her peers and mentors enhance the intrigue. Her growing sense of isolation adds emotional depth, though the focus remains on the central mystery.

Now, let's talk gameplay. GrimGrimoire OnceMore is a complex and fascinating mix of RTS tower defense and strategic unit management. With a myriad of unit types, strengths, and weaknesses to master, the learning curve can be challenging, but ultimately rewarding. The game's mechanics require patience, experimentation, and adaptation, making it a strategic haven for those who persevere.

New features, like the skill tree and Grand Magic, add an extra layer of depth and choice to gameplay. The mission-based structure often restricts magic types, forcing players to devise context-sensitive strategies, which keeps things fresh and engaging. Admittedly, GrimGrimoire OnceMore may prove overwhelming initially, but once I found my footing, I couldn't help but admire its intricate battle system and satisfying strategic depth.

It's no surprise that Vanillaware delivers visually stunning character designs and backgrounds, perfectly complementing the whimsical atmosphere. Lillet's charming witch attire, in particular, left an impression on me. The voice acting is a mixed bag – delightfully cheesy for the most part, but with some jarring performances.

In conclusion, GrimGrimoire OnceMore isn't for everyone. Fans of Vanillaware's other works might find its unique gameplay approach challenging, but those who embrace it will be rewarded with an engrossing strategy RPG, a captivating story, and a memorable protagonist. Before you know it, you'll be left wondering where the hours went as you uncover the mysteries of Silver Star Tower.
