Vigor was originally an Xbox exclusive game that is your standard looter shooter style game with extra emphasis on crafting and survival. I was given the opportunity to be part of the closed beta and after a few days with the game I want to give my impressions on the Closed Beta and feedback.

The game plays well with open environments to explore and find items needed to craft everything from equipment to weapons to forts and more. It’s really a unique concept that brings together the looter shooter aspects with a level of creation found in Minecraft and Fortnite. You have your standard ability to run and gun in 3rd person that controls very similar to PUBG to give you a point of reference as to how it feels and plays like and then craft items as needed.

You have a stash and loadout that you can customize and more. What is cool Is the community aspect of the house you have where you can gain resources and do community donations and get additional consumables, ammo, and more and you can upgrade your house as you go aswell.

Matches were something I wasn’t able to get into too much and I’m not sure if that’s do to the nature of this being a closed beta or it being something due to how not optimal the Nintendo Switch’s network interface is but regardless I was unable to get into anything more than one match and it was very small scale in nature but was overall enjoyable. The main goal is to loot, craft, kill, and get away to the extraction point. There are some airdrops which draw people together to fight for its resources to improve your house and more.

The map is very huge and has a lot of ground that you can cover and its honestly amazing to see this running on the Nintendo Switch.

Visually the game doesn’t look that impressive on the Switch in comparison to the Xbox One X version as looks rough around the edges and at times does look like a different game given the lower resolution textures used and lower framerate in comparison. During some skirmish the framerate drops and stutters as it struggles to keep up its performance and it is a bit of a downer seeing it drop to running at what seems to be 15FPS but I give it the benefit of the doubt of it being a closed beta and not the final product.

Overall impressions are that the game with some polish could be a big hit for players on the switch wanting something alternative to Fortnite and honestly I’m all for it. The graphics do need some major work and the game needs some slightly tighter controls but overall it was a pretty enjoyable experience that I’m looking forward to playing when the final release drops.
